π Day 4 of the International Summer School at CSPU Focused on Multilingualism and Sociolinguistics
The fourth day of the international summer school, organized at Chirchik State Pedagogical University in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (Leibniz-Institut fΓΌr Deutsche Sprache, IDS, Mannheim, Germany), was successfully conducted in accordance with the programme.
π On April 16, 2026, the sessions were devoted to issues of multilingualism and language identity.
π€ In particular, within the course led by Professor Katharina DΓΌck, the following topics were explored:
- the linguistic situation of the traditional German minority in Uzbekistan;
- sociolinguistic aspects of multilingualism;
- the relationship between language and identity.
π In the theoretical part, participants discussed:
- the role of multilingualism in society;
- processes of language maintenance and language shift;
- the distribution of languages across different social groups.
π§ͺ During the practical sessions:
- methods of sociolinguistic data collection (questionnaires, interviews, observation) were introduced;
- authentic spoken data were analyzed;
- transcription of spoken language using the FOLKER tool was practiced.
π At the end of the day, participants received individual academic consultations and guidance for their future research activities.
π€ The summer school continues to provide a valuable platform for combining theoretical knowledge with practical research experience in modern linguistics.
